Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?

WD: I became a filmmaker because I love telling stories, and with film, one story can be told in many different ways.

Q: What are we going to see at CIWF? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

WD: This year I am happy to share an online commercial I created for a company called Clark’s Edibles. It’s an outside the box type skit for their product that’s entertaining for all ages, and won a Telly Award for online commercial this 2013. It has only screened once at EFP at the beginning of this year. We plan on turning this into a campaign once the product is available.

Q: How do you feel about being selected to participate in Colorado Independent Women of Film?

WD: There are many talented women in the film industry here in the Rocky Mountain Region, and it is an honor to be selected to participate in this year’s Colorado Independent Women of Film.

Q: What are your hopes for the event?

WD: I hope that through this event, and the many years of its success to come, women will gain the respect and kudos they deserve from fellow peers in this industry. We always hear about directors, and in film, the majority of them are men, but, if you pay attention to producer’s credits, the majority of them are women. Women have always played a huge part in bringing life to a project and lately, women have been gaining ground on men in the director role. Many women work as editors and assistant directors as well. Women are great story tellers, detailed oriented and can multi task. It’s wonderful that here at the Colorado Independent Women of Film, women are recognized for their talents and hard work .

Q: Who would enjoy attending the festival? Is it just for the filmmaking community, or is there a reason why non-filmmakers should attend?

WD: I believe this festival is for everyone. It’s entertaining, it’s informative, it’s a great place to meet old friends and make new ones, and most importantly it’s a place where individuals from all walks of life, can meet people who can help them bring their idea, or their story to life.

Q: What else are you working on?

WD: Right now I am attending the Art Institute of Colorado which has abled me to work on many different styles of projects. I never treat a school project as a “school project.” I always chose a subject, or create a story that has potential for film festivals, television, or corporate use. Currently I am creating a documentary on Garter Snakes, and my friend Jane Mora and I are writing a full feature film channeling the style of one our favorite directors, Christopher Guest.

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about Colorado Independent Women of Film?

WD: The Colorado Independent Women of Film is a wonderful addition to the great line up of film festivals Colorado offers. This industry is still very male dominate, but with the success of the CIWF will come the success and awareness of all the wonderful women involved in the film industry.

Clark’s Edibles Cupcake Liners will screen Saturday August 17th at 9:00pm at The Bug Theatre.
